A heavy-hearted goodbye...

Thor:  November 2001 - January 20, 2014

My sweet angel is gone.  My little ol' grey-faced man.  A true mama's boy.
How can my heart recover?
Even as I write this, staring at the photo of your sweet face, I feel lost.

Out of all of the waifs at the rescue, you, Thor,
were the one little redhead within the herd of black and white.
The day we picked you up, you had been playing with your kennel-mate.  Knocking over your water bowl to mix with your soiled paper... what an awful stench!  I couldn't wait to get you a bath.

We brought you home to meet your sister, Heidi.  It wasn't a great first meeting, but she warmed up to you quickly.  Pretty soon, you two were inseparable.  She was the hyper one, and you were the totally laid-back one.  You were never much for playing with toys, unless it was to take one from your sister so that she would chase you around the yard.

And you were definitely not a fan of swimming.  The first time we took you to the lake, you jumped right off the end of the dock and sunk to the bottom.  You popped back up, but were VERY wary after that!  We outfitted you with a life-jacket and would occasionally fetch water toys with Heidi, but you preferred wading along the shore. :)

Heidi & Thor making snow angels :)
You were always showing Daddy who was the Alpha-Male in the house:

When you were young, you seemed to have springs in your paws.  You could jump straight up, damn-near looking me in the eyes... that was usually when I was about to fill your food dish.  I had never seen a dog your size jump so high from a standing position.  This came in handy when we had to section-off Heidi from Grandma Bev's dog, Cinder... you were the only one that could jump the barriers and visit both of them throughout the day.

Another of your little quirks... you always wanted to eat on the stairs.  Even when we had your food dish across the room in the kitchen.  You would grab a mouthful of food, go to the stair, drop it (making a mess) and eat from the 1st or 2nd stair step.  So, we just moved your dish there.  And, you still would take your food out of your dish, deposit it NEXT to the dish on the step, and THEN eat it off the step.
It was kinda like when parents of human children find Legos in the middle of the night (ouch!)...
we would find kibble now and then :)

You loved your Beneful:

You always had something going on with you... mainly skin allergies and ear issues.  Once, you shook your ears so much that you cause it to balloon up with fluid.  You had to wear this splint-of-sorts for a few days:

You looked so dorky.  :)   And you were always kind of clumsy... like a gangly teenager.
But then you had your moments like this:

I cropped it out of the photo, but there was a little angelic halo above your head :)
It always shone so brightly when you were sleeping.

You LOVED napping.  More than any dog I had seen.
And if there was a stuffed animal nearby, that was all the better:

You were definitely an inside dog... you were not much of an outdoorsman at all!  You would stay out long enough to do your business, patrol the perimeter of the fence, and then back inside where the a/c or heat was cranked.  I found you deep in thought one day, staring out the window:

Your eyesight started diminishing awhile back, although to look at you, one would never guess you were blind.  Those big beautiful brown eyes would make my heart swell every time I would look into them.

Last romp in the Fall leaves Nov. 2013

Last September you started really declining.  We had to help you up the stairs because your poor little back legs kept losing strength.  But you wanted to be upstairs, not in the living room... even with a compfy bed there.  You wanted to be near us and would follow me from room to room... bumping into things as you went.  Nuzzling me to rub your sweet face.  I would talk to you and would cock your head to the side, listening intently, as if you could understand me.

Thor's impression of a red fox :)

Oh how I am going to miss that.
How many times will I look up, expecting to see you and you will not be there?

From the beginning you were mine.
Daddy might have been the one that found you, but you and I had a special bond.
My sweet boy.  I love you.

Love wrapped in a big white bow :)

Well, kids.  This is my last post for 2009 {sniffle}...

The good news is that 2010 is just around the corner!  Hopefully it will be full of nothing but good things for everyone!  Thanks so much to all of my loyal readers... you truly make my day with your kind words :)

Enough of the sappy stuff... onto the bit o' loverly-ness for this evening!  This was so quick and easy to make, and the sentiment can be switched out lickety-split!

Stamps:  Fabulous Frames (coming soon!), Flourish Trees of Hope (sentiment)
Paper:  black & Premium white cardstocks
Ink:  Noir Palette
Other:  Nestabilities Labels 4, Corner Chomper, CB swiss dot embossing folder, gems, and misc. satin ribbon

A nice card for a wedding or shower gift, or for that special someone :)

"Weebles wobble...

... but they don't fall down."  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq0OQBdIhsc

Do you remember those?  Or did I just date-stamp myself?

{yes, I'm old... well... I feel old :)}

We had the plane, the bus, and I think the car & camper... they were some of my favorite toys when I was little.  Those and all of the little Fisher Price people with the hospital & the baby and all the furniture, parking garage with the elevator, the barn, and the house with the doorbell that actually worked!  The house & barn were SO old-school, that they were made of masonite... the others that came later were all plastic.

{screeching... dying cat style}   "Meeeeeeeeeeeeemories.... light the corner of my mind..."
...is that how it went?  ;)  Thankfully you can't hear me... I swear I'm tone-deaf.  As I recall, I lip-synced a lot in chorus in junior high (yes, yes... it's true)

ANYway, thoughts of those little Weebles kept running through my head when I was making this card.  Cute, right?  This little penguin image actually has really long stick legs that are super cute, but I lopped them off for this card {whack!}

His eyes, beak, & the little heart are all colored with Stardust glitter pens... love the subtle shimmer.  I thought that the front needed some kind of sentiment, so I stamped "joy" right on top of the little guy's belly.

Stamps:  Tag Tidbits, Vintage Santa, Pea Pickin' (retired TAC)
Paper:  white UltraSmooth & scarlet cardstocks, misc. green cardstock
Ink:  Palette Noir, Frost Dazzle VersaMark

Other:  Scor-bug, black Scrapper's Floss, Stardust glitter pens, misc. ribbon, half-pearls (Michael's)

You can barely see in the photos, but there are some snowflakes stamped with the Frost VM onto the scarlet card base... subtle is good.

Thank you for joining me on my journey down memory lane ;)

This is a long post... one for Grandpa!

So I forgot I was in charge of putting together a guest book for Grandpa's shindig tomorrow!  Mom reminded me last night, so this is what I created.  I blotted out his name for this post, but it was stamped with TAC's Mini-bet in Burnt Umber ink.

I had fun with this.  I printed out an old-school photo of Gramps when he was a young man... pretty darn handsome, if I may say :)  I glued it to the back of the bookplate and then applied Crystal Lacquer.  I let it dry overnight and then applied another thick layer this morning.  It looks really cool IRL... like a bauble.

I stamped everything, since my handwriting blows most of the time.  I love all of the different fonts and how all of the edges are aged with distressing or sponging.  I also stamped on each of the interior pages:

"CELEBRATE ... you're kind of a big deal!"  How true is this?!  This is a huge milestone... a 90th birthday!  I can't even fathom all that he has seen or done.  I love all of his stories and am constantly amazed. One of my favorite stories was about when my mom had a date:

Grandpa asked the kid before they went out if he had a watch & he had said that he did.  They get home 10 minutes late and are just talking in the car (according to mom!).  Grandpa leans over to Grandma and says "for two cents, I'll go run that kid off"... Grandma says "You wouldn't!"  So he grabs a pair of pants & his shotgun, goes outside to the driver's side of the car and asks the young man "Do you know what time it is", "Yes Sir" says the young man... "then what the hell are you still doin' in my driveway?"

HAAA HAAA HAA  Granpa is giggling the whole time he walks my mom into the house, and of course Grandma smiles "Oh Morris" like she always did when he was ornery.  Needless to say, the boy was a little skiddish before their next date :)  Hee hee

He is such an ornery thing!  He comes off so loud & tough (a true badass), but I know what a softie he is ;)

In the back of the book I made a spot for a personal note to Grandpa from me... I'll just have to remind him that it is back there :)

Stamps:  Playful-bet & Mini-bet, Date Disks, Thinking of You (Hostess Level C), Interact & Celebration Invitation (both retired)

Paper:  Brown cardstock, misc. offwhite & cream cardstocks, patterned paper from stash (who knows where this came from!)

Ink:  Landscape, Burnt Umber, & Cognac Palettes

Other:  Bind-it-All & 1" rings, DCWV Neutrals chipboard stack, bookplate, BG ribbon, Pop Dots & Crystal Lacquer, misc. brass brads

Exciting Seminar 2009!!

I had an absolute blast this past weekend! It was so great to catch up with my fellow Angel friends, swap cards and ideas, and just forget about the daily grind at the office! It seemed to just fly by, and definitely ended way too soon :)

Good news #1: I've got the new Inspiration Book and Catalogue in my hands!! In fact, I have several boxes of them! If you are interested in getting one, let me know via email and we'll exchange information! The cost is $5 plus shipping, but you will get your $5 back with your first order from me!! And my 'regulars' {whoa... that sounds kinda funny... if you know what I'm sayin' :) } get one free!

Good news #2: I was asked to submit work to possibly be included in the new catty, and I've got three cards and a door hanger project that made the cut! TAC will even have a free downloadable template on their website soon to make it easy-peasy to re-create the door hanger!
I am so honored! In case you are curious, my creations occur on pages 41, 69, 87, and on the inside back cover!

Good news #3: I was able to put real faces to the webbie avatars of so many wonderful ladies! It makes the world seem a little smaller when you can talk face-to-face with someone you've never 'met' before. With the whirl-wind of activity, I hope I was able to meet most of the attendees... if not, there is always next year!!

Good news #4: I still cannot believe it, but I was one of the recipients of The Angel Award. What makes this so special? Well, instead of being selected by the corporate office, recipients have been nominated and chosen by fellow Angel demonstrators!

I cannot express how honored and truly touched I am. I did not cry! But I did choke up a bit :) And we all know how I just LOVE being in the spotlight {insert panic attack here} and getting my picture taken {insert heart palpitations and dilating eyes here}. So now I am truly a princess... yep, I've got the tiara :)

I want to thank all of my kind & wonderful Angel friends for nominating me... you truly are angels :)

BTW... to all of my loyal and awesome commentors... I'm so sorry I haven't returned the favor, but this past week and current week are crazy!! I promise to pick up the slack soon!!!

Awwwww.... {finger poised over lips to avoid hurling incident}

Happy Anniversary to me & Poot! Yep, we've been hitched for 9 years... sometimes it seems longer than that :)

Poot brought me some beautiful roses today... write that down... that hardly EVER happens :)

So, no crafty post, just a couple of wedding day photos... pre-digital, baby!! When I had long hair and was a bit lighter on the scales :)

Thanksgiving and some sappiness...

Ahhhh... quiet. Silence is good. I love getting together with family and all, but all the commotion tends to give me a headache and tuckers me out!! Hope everyone's Thanksgiving was wonderful. Mine was pretty good, except Poot had to go to his mom's while I went my grandpa's. We used to have his mom and brother come out, but for the last couple of years she has wanted to cook the meal and have the boys over (which is totally understandable!). My family is loud and bustling with babies (OMG... they are all soooooooo freakin' adorable... makes me want one!). Grandpa's girlfriend was able to attend this year, so she is probably worn out from trying to keep names straight, and which kid belongs to which mom, etc. She is so nice and pretty, and suits grandpa perfectly... I'm so happy he found someone after grandma passed.

Disclaimer: if you don't want to read any sappy stuff, just stop now.

The hall bathroom at grandpa's was grandma's bathroom... I remember seeing her perfume bottle (Youth Dew from Estee Lauder) and face cream on the vanity. It still feels like grandma in there, even though her personal stuff isn't on the counter anymore. The seashells are still in the basket, a piece of coral on the counter, another shell holds the bar of handsoap, the birdie framed picture still on the wall...

Another thing. I've never sat in grandma's living room chair after she passed. My mom and sisters haven't either... funny, huh? Everyone would cram themselves into the sectional sofa and sprawl on the floor, but we left grandma's chair empty. The only people that tend to sit there are boyfriends or girlfriends of 'younger set' who didn't know grandma. See, grandma had a whole routine. She spent most of the day in at the kitchen table doing crosswords or playing solitare... man, you wouldn't believe how many decks of cards she went through! But in the evening after dinner, she fixed her an Old Charter and water and sat in the chair to watch tv. Usually a show like Matlock or Murder She Wrote. :) Sometimes she would sit in the chair in the afternoon if she was working on a quilt or afaghan (when her eyes & fingers worked better). She always had to have an ottoman... none of that recliner business either... had to be an ottoman. This way she could still swivel around or rock a bit if she felt like it.

It's funny what you remember when family gets together, isn't it? The chair is one of the first things you see when you come in the front door. There's a burgundy and blue ginham quilted wall piece that hangs above the sofa grandma had made years ago. The basket that held her sewing stuff that used to be by her chair in the corner isn't there anymore, but I remember.

She was always well mannered and had a smile on her face. She joked and had fun, and I loved to watch her and grandpa dance. I also remember what a fiesty little thing she was... yep... I recall hearing grandma drop the f-bomb a couple of times! OMG... you wouldn't believe how many people she would shock with that one! It just made me giggle... silly grandma.

Grandma passed a few days after Thanksgiving four years ago, and it's always tough around this time of year, so I just wanted to jot down a couple of thoughts of her tonight. 'Night grandma... miss you... love you.
